Growing up in a family of skilled tradespeople, I learned early on that craftsmanship is more than just a skill; it’s a responsibility.
My grandfather on one side was a superintendent for Otis Elevators, playing a key role in building many of the historic high-rises that shape Toronto’s skyline. On the other side, my grandfather was a pioneer in the dry-cleaning service industry, known for installing and servicing equipment that helped establish the industry as we know it today.
My father, Wayne Hamlyn, was the plant engineer for Harmac Pacific—a man of many trades with multiple licenses, including millwright and gas fitter. But beyond the titles and certifications, he was a man of remarkable precision and foresight. Every project he touched was meticulously planned and executed to the highest standard. Whether he was building homes, barns, or farm infrastructure, nothing was ever left to chance. His approach was methodical, his work ethic unmatched, and his results spoke for themselves. He believed that true craftsmanship meant not just completing a job, but thinking it through from every angle to ensure it was done right—and built to last.
My father-in-law is a licensed plumber—and the one I trust for all plumbing work at Hamlyn Home Services. He’s a true family man and an expert in his craft, always willing to roll up his sleeves and get the job done right. Whether it’s a tricky repair or a full install, he’s not afraid to get his hands dirty and tackle any project head-on. Surrounded by these hardworking, detail-oriented professionals, I naturally developed a love for working with my hands. As a licensed electrician, I have always been passionate about taking things apart, understanding how they work, and putting them back together better than before.
